Since July 2018, Haiti has been experiencing ongoing political and socio-economic instability.
This past year it's been exacerbated. Burning tires, protests, roadblocks, violence, and lockdowns (in Creole "Peyi Lòk") have unfortunately become part of the norm now. As a result of not being able to leave my house freely for weeks at a time, this series is inspired by Haiti's current crisis.
It's not normal,
to see our kids dying.
Bodies laid on the streets -
leaving family and friends crying.
It's not normal
to be scared to go outside,
because you never know
when two gangs will collide.
It's not normal
to say goodbye to another soul
who was too young to go.
Another victim of unregulated gun control.
It's not normal
to think this is just everyday life.
Being used to living in fear
of the country's never ending strife.
